Fire Response Over the Weekend

View from the command post

Over the weekend, the Eden Prairie Fire Department responded to a possible chimney fire in southern Eden Prairie, likely caused by creosote buildup in the fireplace. Damage was minimized by the quick response time and the ability of the crews getting water to the roof of the structure efficiently.

We would like to remind everyone of the importance of having chimneys cleaned and inspected for build-up and damage annually. This preventative measure could minimize the risk of a chimney fire in your home. Annual maintenance on gas-burning fireplaces is important as well.

The Eden Prairie Fire Department received ‘first-alarm’ assistance on this structure fire from Edina, Bloomington, Minnetonka and St. Louis Park Fire Departments.

This fire is still under investigation, no official cause has been determined at this time.
