Digging Out

After our first major snowfall of 2018, the Eden Prairie Fire Department reminds residents to clear out fire hydrants when shoveling driveways and sidewalks.

Fire moves fast, and quick access to your neighborhood hydrant is essential to stopping the spread of destructive smoke and fire. Take a few minutes to shovel the hydrants near your home, even if they aren’t on your property. We need access on all sides of hydrants so we have room to open them up and to attach the hoses.

We also remind everyone to shovel out the back exits of your homes as well, so you can use them to exit in an emergency. And don’t forget to check your smoke alarms — working smoke alarms save lives!
