The Eden Prairie Building Department is a busy place staffed by true professionals! The leader of the Building Department is Building Official, Kevin Schmieg. Kevin is highly regarded around the state by his peers. Great organizations like this one are no accident. Kevin hires the very best in each respective area, gives them the tools and support to do their jobs and they do. Below are some numbers to give you an idea about the volume of activity that passes through this well oiled organization.
So far in 2008: 839 permits issued for projects related to single family residences, the value of which was equal to $14,541,532. 82 permits issued for activity in multiple family structures totaling nearly $5,000,000. 59 permits issued for commercial structure activity totaling more than $12,000,000. There have been 90 permits issued for Industrial/Office structures totaling more than $18,000,000. Permits issued that needed Mechanical, Plumbing or Sewer/Water inspections totaled 1240 and of those 845 we done on-line with our new “e-permits” system. All that totals more than 3,000 permits issued so far this year.
While overall building activity has slowed a bit from some past years the Building Department is still a very busy place and the city is still growing, both are good things! Thank you to those people that continue to choose Eden Prairie as a place to invest in, and thank you to our building Department staff for providing excellent service and professional advice to our customers.
