Getting Ready

Tomorrow from 1100 hrs to 1400 hrs the Fire Department’s Annual Fire Prevention Open House will take place. With good weather we usually get around 3,000 people that show up to learn about fire prevention concepts, get some hands-on experiences and hang out with our firefighters. The crowd is dominated by kids, pulling their parents around to see all the displays and demonstrations, and there are a lot of things to see and do. This year the rest of the city departments will be open to the public as well, with lots of interesting displays to see and staff members to engage with.

Putting one of these events takes a lot of planning and a full out effort by our firefighters. As you can see from the picture below ( a little blurry due to the fact that it was taken with my cell phone camera), last night almost the entire staff showed up to clean and prep all the vehicles and the Fire Station One. During the day, the day training crew did a lot of running around, hauling tables for displays and rounding up all the various props that will be needed.

Fire Prevention is extremely important to us. Our mission is to prevent fires before they happen, and take away the possibility of injury and property damage for our residents, business owners and visitors.
