Every year Eden Prairie Firefighters and Police Officers stop by and visit neighborhoods that register their Eden Prairie Night to Unite event. Also stopping by are Police Department Community Service Officers, Police Explorers and Police Civilian employees who are diligently picking up donations for PROP, the local Eden Prairie Food shelf. This year the event collected more than 9500 pounds of non-perishable food items for PROP, a record amount. Also collected was nearly $700.00 in donation.
Every year there is a contest to see which neighborhood will collect the most food. The winning neighborhood gets an ice cream social brought to their neighborhood along with Fire and Police vehicles. Competition is fierce and the real winners are those people in need who are helped by PROP.
Eden Prairie residents continue to show their outstanding community dedication by getting together, staying connected and also donating generously to people in need. I know I can speak for all Fire and Police staff when I say it is truly an honor and a lot of fun to get out to visit the various neighborhoods on this special night. Well over 100 neighborhoods signed up for a visit this year! Impressive!
