Open House 2012

“Drunk goggles” demonstration

Despite the cloudy and drizzly skies, last Saturday’s Citywide Open House was a huge success with several thousand people passing through City Center and the Fire Station to learn more about how the City of Eden Prairie functions.

At the Police Department kids had their booking photos taken and had a chance to talk to a “friendly prisoner” about what it’s like to be in jail. At our Crime Tech Unit booth kids could dust for fingerprints on a pop can and have their own fingerprints taken. Our K-9 Brix did a demonstration, we had squad cars to climb into, ERU equipment to try on, crime prevention information and goodies to give away.

Crisis Negotiator in Training

One of the most popular spots was the Traffic Unit station where participants could try on “drunk goggles,” plastic goggles designed to simulate the effects of drinking. Once the goggles were on, the “driver” would attempt to walk along a straight line, just as they would in a real field sobriety test.

Thanks to our visitors for taking time out of their weekends to learn more about the EPPD. See you next year!
