What do I do with all this snow?

Now that the snow has arrived, here are a few reminders on ways to be safe and neighborly this winter.

Snow Removal from Sidewalks

Although the City of Eden Prairie is responsible for the removal of snow and/or ice from sidewalks or trails abutting several streets, the majority of owners or occupants of one-or-two family dwellings that are abutting a sidewalk or trail are responsible for removing the snow and ice. This removal must be accomplished within the first 24 hours after the cessation of the precipitation. Here is a map illustrating snow removal responsibilities for trails and sidewalks. For more information, see City Code 6.21, subd 1.

Placing Snow in the Street

Property owners are required to keep all snow and ice on their own property. City code prohibits placing snow or ice in any right-of-way, roadway, street, sidewalk, walkway, bike or trail way, easement, park or other public property. For more information, see City Code 6.06, subd 5.A.

Snow Blowers and Snow Removal Equipment (Noise)

Domestic power equipment may only be operated between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00pm, Monday through Sunday, but snow removal equipment is exempt from this ordinance. For more information, see City Code 9.41, subd 3.A.

Parking in the Street during a Snowfall (Snow Birds)

It is unlawful for any person to park a vehicle on any street after a continuous or intermittent snowfall during which there has been an accumulation of two (2) inches or more of snow on any street and until the same has been plowed or removed to the full width of the roadway thereon. For more information, see City Code 8.15.
