In the past month counterfeit $100 bills have been showing up in Eden Prairie businesses. Four times in the past month businesses have reported attempts, or the successful use of, counterfeit bills which say “For Motion Picture Use Only” on both the front and back of the bills. Similar thefts have occurred in other metro communities.
The EPPD is warning Eden Prairie businesses to be on the lookout for these bills and to call 911 if a customer is attempting to use one. Individuals caught attempting to pass these counterfeit bills will be charged with Counterfeiting Currency which is punishable by a fine ranging from $3,000 to $100,000 and/or not more than one year to not more than 20 years in jail.
