DWI Detail in Eden Prairie Tomorrow

Traffic StopIf you were thinking about drinking and driving in Eden Prairie this Friday, you may want to think again. The EPPD will be conducting a DWI detail throughout the city in the afternoon and evening hours of May 19, along with officers from Edina, Bloomington, Richfield, Hopkins and the MSP Airport. The detail is sponsored and funded by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Towards Zero Deaths (TZD) program.

Throughout the year, the EPPD and our TZD partners conduct details in each of the member cities with a focus on DWI, seatbelts or distracted driving. Using officers from other agencies helps to increase our coverage and get more impaired drivers off the road.

The consequences for driving impaired [PDF] vary for each DWI offender. A typical penalty for a first-time offender is the loss of a driver’s license for a minimum of 30 days to a year and possible jail time. Costs of a DWI can be as high as $20,000 when factoring in court costs, legal fees and increased insurance premiums.

This Friday, and every day, do not drink and drive. The stakes are simply too high.
