Last week was a busy one throughout the metro area for the people involved in planning and executing of all the Super Bowl events, including EPPD officers and Reserve Officers.
You may have seen members of our department managing traffic and providing security in and around Winter Park, or providing security at Flying Cloud Airport. We also had officers assisting the Bloomington Police Department with security at Mall of America, and two investigators tracking down and arresting human trafficking perpetrators as part of a metrowide effort.
If you were lucky, you might have caught a glimpse of EPPD Officer Chris Millard on TV during the game. He was providing security near the tunnel to one of the locker rooms and rumor has it he was in the background of one camera shot. (The EPPD was only asked to provide one officer for the actual game and Officer Millard was selected based on seniority).
In order to accommodate all of these requests for security, we did not grant vacation requests or schedule training during the week. By switching most of our Patrol Division staff to 12-hour shifts, we were able to assign officers to Winter Park and Flying Cloud Airport, while also maintaining the level of service in Eden Prairie our community expects.
We would like to thank our residents and visitors for their patience while traveling in the Winter Park and Flying Cloud Airport areas last week. Your flexibility and understanding helped to make our jobs easier.
