Along with other officers around the state, Eden Prairie officers are stepping up DWI enforcement during the holidays. To date, EPPD officers have made 15 DWI arrests in December and 213 so far in 2018.
Last weekend officers made four DWI arrests including one woman who drove her vehicle over a street sign, through a yard, onto a deck and then into the side of a home, knocking out a window and causing structural damage. The driver fled the scene in her damaged car but left behind the front bumper of the car and the license plate, which had fallen off during the collision.
A witness saw the incident and called 911 with the vehicle description and license plate number, making it easier for officers to locate her. The driver’s Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) was .19 (the legal limit is .08). She was arrested for 3rd Degree DWI and Hit and Run charges.
Also last weekend, Officer Chad Streiff earned another “Hat Trick” by making three DWI arrests in one shift. This is Officer Streiff’s third Hat Trick in 2018.
The EPPD urges our residents to plan ahead if you’ll be drinking and arrange a safe way home before the festivities begin. Remember, friends don’t let friends drive drunk. If you know someone who is about to drive or ride with someone who is impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get to where they are going safely.
