Leaving

leaving image.jpgWe pay attention to people when they arrive to our organization. Our “on boarding” process is extensive. We also pay attention to people when they leave our organization. For today’s post, I wanted to say a few words about exiting the city government organization here in Eden Prairie.

In 2007 two regular part time and one regular full time employees exited our organization. Eight of what we call PTS (part time temporary seasonal) employees also departed in 2007. There are literally hundreds of other PTS employees that come into and out of city government every year during the summer months, but we don’t exit interview them We would exit interview a PTS employee who has worked here for awhile, more than just seasonally.

The top reason for leaving our organization was to take another job for career advancement or more money/benefits. We had one employee leave in order to reduce his/her commute. We had one that left in order to make a career change.

Of our exiting employees in 2007, 92% thought our interview process was good. 75% reported that our communication to them before joining the organization was good. 75% told us that our orientation was good. 66% said that our expectations of them in the job were clear.

84% of them said they were treated fairly at work. 100% said they felt recognized for their work. 92% reported good levels of cooperation & teamwork. 100% said their supervisors listened to their suggestions. 84% said the City resolved complaints and problems promptly and effectively. 92% said the city made them feel valued.

92% said they experienced high levels of teamwork within their departments. 92% said they experienced high levels of teamwork with other City departments. 75% reported good job satisfaction. 91% reported good employee morale levels in their department.

There are two key questions in the exit interview which we pay special attention to. Question #1: Would you recommend the City of Eden Prairie as place to work to a friend? 100% of our exiting employees said they would recommend the City as a place to work. Questions #2: Would you rate the City of Eden Prairie as a great place to work? Again, 100% of the exiting employees said they would.

Good results. Room to grow, but good results.
