Getting Ready for the RNC

There was a good story on the local Channel 4 news last night regarding the public safety preparation for the Republican National Convention in St. Paul. You can see the story by clicking this link: http://wcco.com/rnc/rnc.police.anarchy.2.793662.html

The City of Eden Prairie is contributing to the security efforts at the Xcel Energy Center. Our Police Department will be one of the local Twin Cities police departments involved in the effort. Our City Council approved a formal written agreement with the City of St. Paul that sets out the terms and conditions of our participation. The agreement also specifies how the City of Eden Prairie will be financially reimbursed for its participation in the operation.

The Republican National Convention is an important national event for our state. Clearly, the Police Department of the any one city in the Twin Cities is not large enough to take on such an event. We will assist the St. Paul PD with the safety and security of not only those attending the convention, but also those who are bent to protest and disrupt it.

For this event to go on safely and successfully in St. Paul, it is indeed necessary for other metro cities to step up and help. That’s what we’re doing.
